Northeastern States comprising of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland and Manipur. Except Assam, all are hill States and are deficit in food production. However, Govt. of India vide letter No.156(II)/205-PY dated 31.08.2005 have fixed target of procurement for the KMS 2005-06 as under:

State Govt. have requested Govt. of India to fix the price of Custom Milled Rice to be delivered to FCI through Co-operative Societies in view of the interest of the fanners.

Manipur :

With a view to encourage the farmers, the State of Manipur proposed the prices for procurement of rice under CMR Scheme for KMS 2005-06 and requested FCI,ZO(NE), Guwahati for procurement. It was apprised to HQ which has stated that let Govt. of Manipur approach the Govt. of India for fixation of procurement price. The matter is under active persuasion.

Nagaland :

Price fixed by the Govt. of India for the procurement of Rice for the Central Pool during the KMS 2005:06.

Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Mizoram and Meghalaya :

FCI had taken up the matter with the State Government for procurement of rice in the respective States, but due to non-availability of marketable surplus, the States were not inclined to procure during 2005-2006.
